Wales has never participated in the Eurovision Song Contest but made its debut at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2018 in Minsk with its representative Manw performing her song "Perta", which finished in last place.
The following year it improved on this result by finishing in 18th place. It withdrew from competing in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2020 in Gliwice-Silesia and has not competed since. Host broadcaster S4C cited the COVID-19 pandemic as the reason for not participating in subsequent editions.
On 25 August 2022, the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) announced that the United Kingdom would return to the Contest that year after a sixteen-year absence.
