Ukraine has participated in the Contest 17 times since making its debut in Eurovision Song Contest 2003 in Riga with the song "Hasta la vista" by Olexandr.
A year later in Istanbul, which saw the introduction of the semi finals, they secured their first win with the song "Wild Dances" performed by Ruslana. This would be replicated twelve years later when Jamala triumphed with the song "1944", which set a record under the newly-introduced voting system until it was replaced a year later by "Amar pelos dois" by Salvador Sobral. Their third win came at the Eurovision Song Contest 2022 in Turin, courtesy of the rap group Kalush Orchestra and their song "Stefania".
These victories made it the first Eastern European country to win the Contest three times and as of 2022 they have had a total of nine Top 5 finishes. They withdrew from competing in the 2015 Contest in Vienna due to financial reasons and again in the 2019 Contest in Tel Aviv due to their chosen act refusing to sign a contract that forbade them from performing in Russia.
As of 2022, they are the only competing nation to have a 100% qualification record.
It made its debut at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2006 in Bucharest, finishing in 9th place. It has competed a further 16 times scoring its first and only win so far at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2012 in Amsterdam.
