Switzerland was one of the seven countries competing in the very first Eurovision Song Contest in 1956.
To date it has won the Contest twice: the very first edition in 1956 and in 1988 with the latter victory provided by Celine Dion, who would go on to become one of the biggest-selling artists of all-time.
Since the Semi Final and Grand Final system was introduced in 2004, the country has failed to reach the final ten times. It has only reached the Top 10 once when the girlband Vanilla Ninja finished in 8th place in 2005.
