Slovakia debuted in the Contest in Dublin in 1994 and competed a total of seven times. It attempted to enter the previous year but failed to pass the qualifying round.
Its best placing was 18th, which it achieved at the 1996 Contest in Oslo, but following a series of non-participations and failure to qualify from the semi finals the country opted to withdraw from the Contest and has not competed since 2012. However, the it was announced in August 2023 that the country was working on securing the funds needed for a possible return for the 2025 Contest.
