Montenegro has participated in the Contest 12 times since its debut at the Eurovision Song Contest 2007 in Helsinki as an independent nation but failed to advance from the semi finals. Prior to this they competed as Serbia and Montenegro from 2004 to 2006 and as Yugoslavia from 1961 to 1992.
Since their debut they have only qualified for the final twice with their best result coming in the 2015 Contest courtesy of Knez, whose song "Adio" finished in 13th place in the final.
The country has only appeared twice at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest, debuting in 2014 Contest in Marsa where it finished in 14th place. The following year, it finished in 13th place before withdrawing. Prior to this, they competed as Serbia and Montenegro in 2005.
