Johnny Logan is an Australian-born Irish singer-songwriter who began his career in the late 1970s, first attempting to represent Ireland in the Contest in 1979 with the song "Angie" but placing third in the national final.
A further two attempts proved more successful: in the 1980 Contest in The Hague with the song "What's Another Year" and seven years later in Brussels with the song "Hold Me Now" respectively, winning on both occasions, thus making him the only act to win the Contest twice as a performer until Loreen equaled the record with her victory at the 2023 Contest in Liverpool.
He also wrote Linda Martin's 1984 Contest entry in Luxembourg City "Terminal 3", which finished as runner up as well as her winning entry "Why Me?" at the 1992 Contest in Malmö. Until 2023, he was the only participant to win the Contest as a performer before he was joined by Loreen and her entry "Tattoo" but he remains the only artist to win as a songwriter for another act representing his home country. Due to his successes, he is affectionately called "Mr. Eurovision" by Contest fans.
He returned to the Eurovision world at the 2014 Contest in Copenhagen when he appeared in the "Museum of Eurovision History" sketch as part of an interactive display.
