Hearts of Soul is a Dutch-Belgian girl group originally consisting of sisters Bianca, Patricia and Stella Maessen. They began their career in 1969 as backing singers in the Dutch national final for singer Rob de Nijs, who finished in joint last place, before releasing their own music. Together they released several singles.

The were first selected to represent their country on home soil in the Eurovision Song Contest 1970 in Amsterdam with the song "Waterman", which finished in 7th place with 7 points. Since the rules of the Contest at the time did not allow groups to compete, so Patricia performed as a solo singer, while Bianca and Stella joined her on stage as backing vocalists.

They later moved to Belgium and joined together with singer Luc Semts to form the group Dream Express and entered the national final, winning the chance to represent the country in the Eurovision Song Contest 1977 in London with the song "A Million in One, Two, Three", which finished in 7th place with 69 points.

Following this, Patricia decided to leave the group, so the group changed its name to LBS (an acronym for Luc, Bianca and Stella) in 1979. Their singles received much airplay in 1979 before the group broke up in 1981, due to the divorce of Luc and Bianca.

Bianca embarked on a solo career in the 1980s and Stella went on to represent Belgium in the Eurovision Song Contest 1982 in Harrogate with the song "Si tu aimes ma musique", which finished in 4th place with 96 points.

At the 1986 Contest in Bergen, Patricia provided backing vocals for the winning entry "J'aime la vie", performed by Sandra Kim and the following year in Brussels, she was a backing vocalist for Plastic Bertrand, who represented Luxembourg. She died on 15 May 1996 in Mortsel, Belgium at the age of 44, from the effects of a stroke.

In September 2010, the surviving sisters reunited as Hearts of Soul with their younger sister Doreen to release the single "Suddenly You", their first as a trio in over three decades.
