The Eurovision Song Contest 1974 was the 19th edition of the annual Eurovision Song Contest. It was held on 6 April 1974 in Brighton, England, United Kingdom, which took over hosting duties after the previous year's winner Luxembourg declined to host for the second year in a row due to expenses.
Seventeen countries participated. Greece made its debut while no country returned. France withdrew from competing.
Sweden was the winning country for the first time ever with the song "Waterloo", performed by the group ABBA. As a result, this victory kickstarted their path to becoming one of the most-successful acts in music history.
