The Eurovision Song Contest 1973 was the 18th edition of the annual Eurovision Song Contest. It was held on 7 April 1973 in Luxembourg City following Vicky Leandros' victory with the song "Après toi".
Seventeen countries participated with Israel making its debut while no country returned. Both Austria and Malta withdrew from competing.
For the second year in a row, Luxembourg was declared the winner courtesy of Anne-Marie David's entry "Tu te reconnaîtras". It was the highest-scoring winning entry under any voting system and gave the country its fourth win.
Because of the increased security surrounding the event (mainly to allow Israel to debut comfortably following the atrocities of the Munich Massacre a year prior), audience members were warned not to get up from their seats during the show, at the risk of being shot by security personnel.
