Bobbejaan Schoepen was a Flemish pioneer of Belgian pop music and European country music whose talents ranged from being an entrepreneur, singer-songwriter, guitarist, comedian, actor, to a professional whistler. His music career flourished from 1948 to the mid-1970s and he sold five million records.
He was selected to represent his home country in the Eurovision Song Contest 1957 in Frankfurt am Main with the song "Straatdeuntje", which finished in joint 8th place with 5 points alongside "L'enfant que j'étais" by Lys Assia.
He died on 17 May 2010 of a heart attack at the age of 85, a day after celebrating his birthday.
